Course Title: P.E. (grades 7 and 8)
Teacher’s Name: Mr. Anderson
Website: http://andersonnavigator.weebly.com/
Contacts: email -mark.anderson@venturausd.org or phone: 641-5165 ext. 2059 (only if at school)
Textbooks: N/A
Major Emphasis of the Course: The goals and objective of this course align with the California State Content Standards for P.E. These content standards can be accessed at http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/documents/pestandards.pdf. Daily participation, homework, quizzes, and demonstrated mastery of P.E. activities will be used to assess student attainment of the standards.
Course Expectations: Because the majority of the students’ grades in P.E. will be determined by their daily participation, I expect my students to give 100% each class period. Students must log on to Zoom during the correct time slot for their class period. If for some reason, they cannot make their class time, they can attend live class during a different period if they notify me ahead of time to get the Zoom code for that period. Students may also choose to complete the Canvas activity for that day to make up their points for the day. As we will almost always be exercising during live classes, please be dressed in appropriate workout clothing. I expect that any assignments in Canvas will be completed and submitted in a timely and neat manner. I expect students to conform to the VUSD Attendance Policy, Standards of Student Behavior and Conduct, Dress Code, and Academic Honesty Policy. These policies can be found on the VUSD website at www.venturausd.org and in the Parent-Student Handbook.
The aim of this course is to immerse students (as much as is possible during distance learning) in lessons that incorporate both the California state standards (http://www.cde.ca.gov/be/st/ss/documents/pestandards.pdf.) and the national P.E. standards listed at www.shapeamerica.org/standards/pe/.
Class Grading Policy (Based on California P.E. standards that every 7th and 8th grade student engages in 400 minutes of physical activity every 10 school days)
- Students will earn 10 points per day for participating fully in live class instruction. Points will be deducted by the instructor if a student fails to try to complete the activity.
- Students must earn additional points (up to 10 points per day) for completing activities in Canvas on days that they don’t have live Zoom instruction.
- Each week will be based on a 50 point maximum score. Students will reach this total by combining live Zoom instruction with activities from Canvas.
- On Fridays, the PE activity log must be filled out and submitted to Mr. Anderson via Canvas. If a student fails to turn in the activity log, they will receive points only for the days they attended live class.
The grade in this course will be based on the accumulation of points earned through daily participation (10 points possible each day), Canvas assignments, quizzes, and demonstrated mastery of P.E. activities. The Canvas activity logs should be submitted every Friday.
